A heart-warming story of trust and friendship between a horse and his boy
Sold to a new home, Icelandic horse Fleygur longs to find a horse-talking human who can understand him. Instead, he endures cruelty and is finally abandoned. Rescued by eleven-year-old Roger, Fleygur begins to believe he has found ‘the one’. But can they each overcome their past trauma? Can Roger hold on to his little Viking horse, and will Fleygur trust Roger enough to follow him into a burning barn…?
For ages 9 – 12, and horse-lovers of any age.

Little Viking Horse is based on the character of one of Catherine’s Icelandic horses, Fleygur. Although the story is fictional, many of the incidents in the book are based on real events and observations that Catherine has experienced. She hopes that the book will encourage people to think again about how horses feel about our behaviour towards them, and what horses really need and care about.
Telling stories through the eyes of animals is a passion of Catherine’s, but it’s not just about the animals. Their stories can also teach us about ourselves and how we treat one another. Little Viking Horse contains themes of loss, trust, bullying, and learning to listen and appreciate other perspectives.

If you want to follow the real Fleygur’s adventures and find out more about Icelandic horses, he has his own website, http://www.littlevikinghorse.com (under construction – updated with new information soon!)
